What Is a SIAKAD? Definition, Functions, and Benefits for Universities
A SIAKAD is an academic information system that manages a campus's academic data and processes. Learn its functions, modules, and benefits.
What a SIAKAD is
SIAKAD stands for Sistem Informasi Akademik, or academic information system. It is the application universities use to manage academic data and processes, from student records, curricula, class schedules, and study plan cards (KRS) to attendance, grades, and graduation.
Without a SIAKAD, these processes are usually scattered across many files and separate applications. As a result, data is hard to consolidate, easily differs between departments, and is slow to retrieve when needed for reporting or decision-making.
Main functions of a SIAKAD
- Master data management: students, lecturers, study programs, courses, and rooms.
- Curriculum management and scheduling of classes and exams.
- Online KRS with credit load validation and academic advisor approval.
- Recording of attendance, grades, semester grade reports (KHS), and transcripts.
- Management of final projects, graduation committees (yudisium), and graduation.
- Providing data for reporting to PDDikti (the national higher education database) and for accreditation needs.
Modules commonly found in a modern SIAKAD
Older-generation SIAKADs typically cover academics only. Modern SIAKADs are usually integrated with other modules so data does not have to be moved manually.
- Online new student admissions (PMB).
- Student finance: invoices, payments, and scholarships.
- E-learning or LMS, and computer-based testing (CBT).
- Staffing and lecturer workload.
- Internal quality assurance and accreditation.
- Alumni and tracer studies.
Benefits for each stakeholder
- Students: handle KRS, view grades, and pay invoices from a single portal.
- Lecturers: record attendance and grades without manual recaps, and monitor their advisees.
- Academic administrators: lighter administrative work with fewer input errors.
- Leadership: up-to-date data for decisions and reports.
What sets a good SIAKAD apart?
A good SIAKAD uses one database for all modules, so a change in one place is immediately visible everywhere else. It also follows the latest regulations, is easy to adapt to campus rules, and connects to national systems such as Neo Feeder PDDikti and SISTER.
Kampusin is designed around these principles. You can see its modules on the home page or request a live demo.
Frequently asked questions
Is a SIAKAD the same as an LMS?
No. A SIAKAD manages academic administration, while an LMS (e-learning) manages learning activities such as course materials and assignments. Modern SIAKADs usually include both.
Is a SIAKAD mandatory for universities?
No rule requires a particular product, but campuses are required to report data to PDDikti. A SIAKAD makes that reporting much easier and more accurate.
