SPMI, the PPEPP Cycle, and Preparing for Campus Accreditation

The Internal Quality Assurance System runs in the PPEPP cycle. Understand its stages and how SIAKAD data supports accreditation.

What is SPMI?

The Sistem Penjaminan Mutu Internal (SPMI, Internal Quality Assurance System) is a university's systematic activity to maintain and continuously improve quality. SPMI is run by the campus itself, unlike accreditation, which is carried out by an external body.

The PPEPP cycle

  • Establishing standards (Penetapan): the campus sets quality standards.
  • Implementing standards (Pelaksanaan): the standards are carried out in daily activities.
  • Evaluating implementation (Evaluasi): checked, for example through internal quality audits.
  • Controlling implementation (Pengendalian): findings are corrected and followed up.
  • Improving standards (Peningkatan): standards are improved for the next cycle.

Accreditation

Institutional accreditation is carried out by BAN-PT, while study program accreditation is carried out by BAN-PT or an Independent Accreditation Institution (Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri, LAM) depending on the field of study. Assessment relies on a self-evaluation and a performance report containing quantitative data and evidence of implementation.

What data is needed

  • Student and graduate profiles, including study duration and GPA.
  • Lecturer data: qualifications, rank, research, and community service.
  • Results of satisfaction surveys and student evaluations of lecturers.
  • Graduate tracer study data.
  • Evidence of standards implementation and audit follow-up.

The role of the SIAKAD in quality

A SIAKAD integrated with a quality module turns operational data into accreditation tables, indicators, and audit findings without manual recaps. Lecturer data from SISTER and tracer study results flow in as well. Note that the references to accreditation bodies and instruments should always be verified on the websites of BAN-PT and the relevant LAM, as they may change.
